PRELUDE – OSLC Praise Team

“He’s Always Been Faithful” – By: Sara Groves

GREETING

L: The light of Christ, the love of God, and the joy of the Spirit be with you all.

C: And also with you.

L: In the beginning was the Word,

C: and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

L: In the Word was life,

C: and the life was the light of all people.

L: The Word became flesh and lived among us,

C: and we have seen his glory, full of grace and truth.

PRAYER OF THE DAY

L: Let us pray:

C: Almighty God, by grace alone you call us and accept us in your service. Strengthen us by your Spirit, and make us worthy of your call, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

GATHERING SONG

“Open Our Lives To The Word – By: Ray Makeever

May our words, may our songs, may our worship this day

fill up our hearts and give us new sight.

May our prayers, may our praise give us light for our days, and open our lives to the Word.

Open our lives to the living Word. Open our hearts to the truth we have heard.

May our words, may our songs, may our worship this day open our lives to the Word.

May our griefs, may our woes, may the sorrows we share

fill up our hearts and call forth our care.

May our tears, may our fears be accepted right here, and open our lives to the Word.

Open our lives to the living Word. Open our hearts to the truth we have heard.

May our griefs, may our woes, may the sorrows we share open our lives to the Word.

May our joys, may our smiles, may the gifts that we bring fill up our hearts and stir us to sing.

May we serve, may we dance, may we all take that chance; and open our lives to the Word.

Open our lives to the living Word. Open our hearts to the truth we have heard.

May our joys, may our smiles, may the gifts that we bring open our lives to the Word.

READING – Psalm 62:5-12

5For God alone I wait in silence;

truly, my hope is in God.

6God alone is my rock and my salvation,

my stronghold, so that I shall never be shaken.

7In God is my deliverance and my honor;

God is my strong rock and my refuge.

8Put your trust in God always, O people,

pour out your hearts before the one who is our refuge.

9Those of high degree are but a fleeting breath; those of low estate cannot be trusted.

Placed on the scales together they weigh even less than a breath.

10Put no trust in extortion; in robbery take no empty pride;

though wealth increase, set not your heart upon it.

11God has spoken once, twice have I heard it,

that power belongs to God.

12Steadfast love belongs to you, O Lord,

for you repay all according to their deeds.

L: Word of God, word of life.  C: Thanks be to God.

SERMON – Pr. Karen Behling

SONG OF THE DAY

“Praise The One Who Breaks The Darkness”

Praise the One who breaks the darkness with a liberating light;

praise the One who frees the pris’ners, turning blindness into sight.

Praise the One who preached the gospel, healing ev’ry dread disease,

calming storms and feeding thousands with the very bread of peace.

Praise the One who blessed the children with a strong yet gentle word;

praise the One who drove out demons with a piercing, two-edged sword.

Praise the One who brings cool water to the desert’s burning sand;

from this well comes living water quenching thirst in ev’ry land.

Praise the one true love incarnate: Christ, who suffered in our place;

Jesus died and rose for many that we may know God by grace.

Let us sing for joy and gladness, seeing what our God has done.

Praise the one redeeming glory; praise the One who makes us one.

CONFESSION

L: In Christ, you have heard the word of truth, the source of our salvation.

C:    We believe in Christ and are marked with the promise of our baptisms.

L: Living together in trust and hope, we confess our faith and ground ourselves in our faith in God.

C:    We pray in the Holy Spirit.

L: We strive to keep ourselves in the love of God;

C:    We look forward to the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ.

L: If anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation:

C:    Everything old has passed away; behold, everything has become new!

L: God has given us the ministry of reconciliation. Therefore, let us be reconciled to God and to one another.

L: Gracious God:

C: Have mercy on us. In your compassion forgive us our sins, known and unknown, things done and left undone. Uphold us by your Spirit so that we may live and serve you in newness of life, to the honor and glory of your holy name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

L: The almighty and merciful God grant us forgiveness of all our sins.

C: Amen

PEACE

L: Sisters and brothers, rejoice. Let us mend our ways, encourage one another, agree with one another, and may the peace of Christ be with you always.

C:    And also with you.
