PRELUDE – OSLC Praise Team

“Purify My Heart” – By: Brian Doerksen

WELCOME

L: The light of Christ, the love of God, and the joy of the Spirit be with you all.

C:    And also with you.

L: In the beginning was the Word,

C:    and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

L: In the Word was life,

C:    and the life was the light of all people.

L: The Word became flesh and lived among us,

C:    and we have seen his glory, full of grace and truth.

PRAYER OF THE DAY

L: Let us pray:

C:    Everlasting God, you give strength to the weak and power to the faint. Make us agents of your healing and wholeness, that your good news may be made known to the ends of your creation, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

GATHERING SONG

“How Firm A Foundation”

How firm a foundation, O saints of the Lord,

is laid for your faith in Christ Jesus, the Word!

What more can he say than to you he has said

who unto the Savior for refuge have fled?

“Fear not, I am with you, oh, be not dismayed,

for I am your God and will still give you aid;

I’ll strengthen you, help you, and cause you to stand,

upheld by my righteous, omnipotent hand.”

“When through fiery trials your pathway shall lie,

my grace, all-sufficient, shall be your supply.

The flames shall not hurt you; I only design

your dross to consume and your gold to refine.”

“Throughout all their lifetime my people shall prove

my sov’reign, eternal, unchangeable love;

and then, when gray hairs shall their temples adorn,

like lambs they shall still in my bosom be borne.”

HOLY GOSPEL – Mark 1:29-39

As soon as [Jesus and the disciples] left the synagogue, they entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.

Now Simon’s mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they told him about her at once. He came and took her by the hand and lifted her up. Then the fever left her, and she began to serve them.

That evening, at sunset, they brought to him all who were sick or possessed with demons. And the whole city was gathered around the door. And he cured many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and he would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him.

In the morning, while it was still very dark, he got up and went out to a deserted place, and there he prayed. And Simon and his companions hunted for him. When they found him, they said to him, “Everyone is searching for you.” He answered, “Let us go on to the neighboring towns, so that I may proclaim the message there also; for that is what I came out to do.”

And he went throughout Galilee, proclaiming the message in their synagogues and casting out demons.

L: The gospel of the Lord.  C: Praise to you, O Christ.

SERMON – Pr. Karen Behling

SONG OF THE DAY

“On Eagle’s Wings”

You who dwell in the shelter of the Lord, who abide in this shadow for life,

say to the Lord: “My refuge, my rock in whom I trust!”

Refrain

And he will raise you up on eagle’s wings, bear you on the breath of dawn,

make you to shine like the sun, and hold you in the palm of his hand.

The snare of the fowler will never capture you, and famine will bring you no fear;

under God’s wings your refuge, with faithfulness your shield.  Refrain

You need not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day;

though thousands fall about you, near you it shall not come.  Refrain

For to the angels God’s given a command to guard you in all of your ways;

upon their hands they will bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone.

Final refrain

And he will raise you up on eagle’s wings, bear you on the breath of dawn,

make you to shine like the sun, and hold you in the palm of his hand;

and hold you, hold you in the palm of his hand.

CONFESSION

L: In Christ, you have heard the word of truth, the gospel of our salvation.

C:    We believe in Christ and are marked with the promise of our baptisms.

L: Living together in trust and hope, we confess our faith and ground ourselves in our faith in God.

C:    We pray in the Holy Spirit.

L: We strive to keep ourselves in the love of God;

C:    We look forward to the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ.

L: If anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation:

C:    Everything old has passed away; behold, everything has become new!

L: God has given us the ministry of reconciliation. Therefore, let us be reconciled to God and to one another.    Gracious God:

C:    Have mercy on us. In your compassion forgive us our sins, known and unknown, things done and left undone. Uphold us by your Spirit so that we may live and serve you in newness of life, to the honor and glory of your holy name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

L: The almighty and merciful God grant us forgiveness of all our sins.

C:    Amen

PEACE

L: Sisters and brothers, rejoice. Let us mend our ways, encourage one another, agree with one another, and may the peace of Christ be with you always.

C:    And also with you.

L: Please share a sign of peace with those worshipping with you or pause this video in order to send a quick text or email to someone.

PRAYER

LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven.  Give us today our daily bread.  Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.  Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil.  For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and forever. Amen
