PRELUDE – OSLC Praise Team

“Thy Word” – By: Amy Grant

WELCOME

L: The light of Christ, the love of God, and the joy of the Spirit be with you all.

C:    And also with you.

L: In the beginning was the Word,

C:    and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

L: In the Word was life,

C:    and the life was the light of all people.

L: The Word became flesh and lived among us,

C:    and we have seen his glory, full of grace and truth.

PRAYER OF THE DAY

L: Let us pray together:

C: Almighty God, the resplendent light of your truth shines from the mountaintop into our hearts. Transfigure us by your beloved Son, and illumine the world with your image, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

GATHERING SONG – “Beautiful Savior”

Beautiful Savior, King of creation, Son of God and Son of Man!

Truly I’d love thee, truly I’d serve thee, light of my soul, my joy, my crown.

Fair are the meadows, fair are the woodlands, robed in flow’rs of blooming spring;

Jesus is fairer, Jesus is purer, he makes our sorrowing spirit sing.

Fair is the sunshine, fair is the moonlight, bright the sparkling stars on high;

Jesus shines brighter, Jesus shines purer than all the angels in the sky.

Beautiful Savior, Lord of the nations, Son of God and Son of Man!

Glory and honor, praise, adoration, now and forevermore be thine!

HOLY GOSPEL – Mark 9:2-9

2Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain apart, by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, 3and his clothes became dazzling white, such as no one on earth could bleach them. 4And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses, who were talking with Jesus. 5Then Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; let us make three dwellings, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” 6He did not know what to say, for they were terrified. 7Then a cloud overshadowed them, and from the cloud there came a voice, “This is my Son, the Beloved; listen to him!” 8Suddenly when they looked around, they saw no one with them any more, but only Jesus.
9As they were coming down the mountain, he ordered them to tell no one about what they had seen, until after the Son of Man had risen from the dead.

L: The gospel of the Lord.  C: Praise to you, O Christ.

SERMON – Pr. Karen Behling

SONG OF THE DAY – “Christ Be Our Light”

Longing for light, we wait in darkness, Longing for truth, we turn to you.
Make us your own, your holy people, Light for the world to see.

Chorus:       Christ be our light!  Shine on our hearts!  Shine through the darkness!                                  Christ be our light! Shine in your church, gathered today!

Longing for peace, our world is troubled.  Longing for hope, many despair.
Your word alone has power to save us.  Make us your living voice.   Chorus

Longing for food, many are hungry.  Longing for water, still many thirst.
Make us your bread, broken for others.  Shared until all are fed.   Chorus

Longing for shelter, many are homeless.  Longing for warmth, many are cold.
Make us your building, sheltering others.  Walls made of living stone.   Chorus

Many the gifts, many the people.  Many the hearts that yearn to belong.
Let us be servants to one another.  Making your kingdom come.   Chorus

CONFESSION

L: In Christ, you have heard the word of truth, the gospel of our salvation.

C:    We believe in Christ and are marked with the promise of our baptisms.

L: Living together in trust and hope, we confess our faith and ground ourselves in our faith in God.

C:    We pray in the Holy Spirit.

L: We strive to keep ourselves in the love of God;

C:    We look forward to the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ.

L: If anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation:

C:    Everything old has passed away; behold, everything has become new!

L: God has given us the ministry of reconciliation. Therefore, let us be reconciled to God and to one another.  Gracious God:

C:    Have mercy on us. In your compassion forgive us our sins, known and unknown, things done and left undone. Uphold us by your Spirit so that we may live and serve you in newness of life, to the honor and glory of your holy name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

L: The almighty and merciful God grant us forgiveness of all our sins.

C:    Amen

PEACE

L: Sisters and brothers, rejoice. Let us mend our ways, encourage one another, agree with one another, and may the peace of Christ be with you always.

C:    And also with you.

PRAYER

LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven.  Give us today our daily bread.  Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.  Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil.  For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and forever. Amen

BLESSING
